0018 – ‘FREDRICK FRILLY NECK’
I remember when the boys were young we always rescued birds, snakes, lizards anything that had an injury, needing some help.
Driving along towards Samsonvale, a car going the opposite way heading towards us – ran over a Frilly right in front of our eyes, I immediately pulled over while the other car wouldn’t have even glance in it’s reverse mirror & kept driving. We always had a sheet & a towel in the car for any emergencies that we may come across so out came the towel. The Frilly was still, not moving but his eyes were moving following me, he had blood gurgling out of his nose – I wrapped him in the towel & off to home we traveled. I cleaned him up, used some of my secret ingredient for shocked or injured animals, put the towel & Frilly into a box & covered the lid shut, every half hour he was checked.
I was sure he would die through the night BUT to my amazement when I checked him in the morning he was looking heaps better & was moving to get away from me & his nose only had dry blood not wet. this was a good indicator that he may, (fingers crossed) live to see another day. Mr Frilly lived with us & traveled everywhere with us for a month, he had become quite tame
– Time to say goodbye – we took him back to where we found him & released him in the bush to his home, away from the road, he ran away.
